“کرونا” ناتواں انسان ہیں ہم
“کرونا” ناتواں انسان ہیں ہم
مگر مت بھولنا طوفان ہیں ہم
“karona” naatwan ansan hen ham
magar mat bholnaa tufan hen ham
ya duniya khtam kar ke kiya karo ge
faza min tum akile hi maro ge
fana jab kar chako ge sari duniya
karo ge yaad phar tam piyari duniya
hamara zarf na tam aazmao
hamin na khun ke aanso rulao
sabhi bande yahan par hen khuda ke
hen cye an pah har lmaha dua ke
yahi behtar hay kah jao yahan se
farshte aa rahe hen aasman se
yahan mazdur rahte hen zamin par
hen faqe katte ab beth ke ghar
mahinon se darama kar rahe ho
zamin laashon se kiyon tam bhar rahe ho
sabhi bazar band rahne lage hen
bara tam ko sabhi kahane lage hen
“کرونا” چھوڑ دو بستی ہماری
زمیں کی کوکھ ہے تم نے اُجاڑی
“karona” chhod do basti hamari
zamin ki kokh hay tam ne ujadi
yahan bemaryan hen dher sari
yahan rahta hay sab pah khuf taari
hamari zandgi barbad na kar
jahan se hay to aaya ja wahin mar
sada diti hay kajal zandgi ko
bulati hay dua ki roshani ko

The Rise of Lockdown Poetry
When the world went into lockdown, people turned to art to make sense of their emotions. Poetry, with its brevity and emotional depth, became a popular choice. Social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook saw an explosion of lockdown poems, with hashtags like #LockdownPoetry and #PoetryCoronavirus trending globally.
Poets, both amateur and professional, began sharing their reflections on the pandemic, quarantine life, and the human condition. These poems captured the zeitgeist of the era, offering a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the shared experiences of isolation, loss, and hope.
Themes in Lockdown Poems
Lockdown poetry is as diverse as the people who write it, but several recurring themes stand out:
- Isolation and Loneliness
Many lockdown poems delve into the profound sense of isolation experienced during the pandemic. Lines about empty streets, silent nights, and the longing for human connection resonate deeply with readers who faced similar emotions. - Resilience and Hope
Despite the challenges, lockdown poetry often carries a message of hope. Poets write about finding strength in adversity, cherishing small joys, and looking forward to brighter days. These poems serve as a reminder of the indomitable human spirit. - Nature’s Rebirth
With human activity reduced, nature began to reclaim its space. Lockdown poems frequently highlight the beauty of clearer skies, the return of wildlife, and the healing power of nature, offering a silver lining to the pandemic. - Grief and Loss
The pandemic brought immense suffering, and many poems address the pain of losing loved ones, the fear of the unknown, and the collective grief that gripped the world.
Introspection and Self-Discovery
Lockdowns provided an opportunity for introspection. Poems often explore themes of self-discovery, personal growth, and the reevaluation of priorities during this unprecedented time.
Why Lockdown Poems Resonate
Lockdown poems resonate because they are deeply personal yet universally relatable. They capture the shared human experience of the pandemic, offering comfort and connection in a time of physical distancing. For many, reading or writing poetry became a form of therapy, helping them process complex emotions and find meaning in the chaos.
Moreover, the accessibility of poetry played a significant role. Unlike other art forms, poetry requires no special tools or training—just a pen, paper, and a willingness to express oneself. This democratization of poetry allowed people from all walks of life to contribute their voices to the global narrative.
Notable Lockdown Poems and Poets
Several poets gained recognition for their poignant lockdown poems. For instance, British poet laureate Simon Armitage penned “Lockdown,” a poem that reflects on the parallels between the pandemic and the Great Plague of Eyam in 1665. Similarly, Instagram poets like Rupi Kaur and Lang Leav shared heartfelt verses that resonated with millions.
Amateur poets also made significant contributions, with platforms like Poetry Corner and The Lockdown Poetry Project showcasing works from everyday individuals. These poems, often raw and unpolished, carry an authenticity that deeply touches readers.
The Legacy of Lockdown Poetry
As the world gradually moves beyond the pandemic, lockdown poetry remains a testament to the resilience and creativity of the human spirit. It serves as a historical record, capturing the emotions and experiences of a unique moment in time.
For aspiring poets, lockdown poetry reminds them that art can flourish even in the most challenging circumstances. It encourages them to find beauty in the mundane, strength in vulnerability, and connection in isolation.
Lockdown poems are more than just words on a page—they are a reflection of our shared humanity during the coronavirus pandemic. They remind us that even in the darkest times, creativity and hope can thrive. Whether you’re a seasoned poet or a casual reader, exploring lockdown poetry offers a chance to connect with the emotions and experiences that define an era.
As we move forward, let these poems serve as a reminder of the lessons learned during the pandemic: the importance of community, the power of resilience, and the enduring beauty of the written word.
